WV Presentation at the Richmond - Short Pump VA REI Feb. 18th

 From the REI Event calendar:

Ever wonder who maintains and builds those trails you hike on? Who clears the fallen trees and brush, keeps invasive plant species at bay, or revegetates habitat and transforms those muddy, washed out sections of trail into navigable and inviting footpaths? People just like you - on service trips with Wilderness Volunteers. And we want you to come join us! A national nonprofit founded in 1997, Wilderness Volunteers partners with national and local organizations to organize and promote volunteer service projects that would go undone without volunteer support. Wilderness Volunteers runs 50 week-long service trips each year throughout our national parks, forests, and wilderness areas. In just one year, our volunteers donated more than 15,000 hours of work, collectively maintaining and building over 70 miles of trails, planting more than 13,000 plants, moving more than 70 tons of rock, and removing miles of fencing and thousands of invasive weeds. Stop by to learn what it's like to spend a week "Giving Something Back" in some of the country's most beautiful places and learn how you can join us on one of our projects, which run from March to October.

Yosemite National Park, CA (2006)

Volunteers Mike & Jen Leonard and Rick & Marge Volpe will be at the REI Store in Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia from 7-8pm on April 25th to share their experiences "Giving Something Back" with Wilderness Volunteers. They'll cover the basics of what we do, how you can get involved on one of our 2012 projects, and what you can expect on a "volunteer vacation" in America's national parks, forests, and wilderness areas. For more information and to register for this free event, click here. All are welcome - invite your friends and family.

Interested in spreading the word at your local outdoor store? Just ask the store manager or outreach director. We'd love the help! And stay tuned to the blog and newsletter for information on presentation materials and some simple steps to pulling off a successful event.

WV Presents....at Portland REI

This February 22nd at 7pm PST, Wilderness Volunteers leader and participant Maidie Kenney will be leading a discussion about "Volunteer Vacations" at REI's Hillsboro, OR location. Maidie will be speaking about her experience as a WV volunteer and will be sharing photos from her recent trips.

(Note: she knows her way around a camera, as proven by her 3rd place finish in the 2010 WV Photo Contest, so I'm sure you're all in for a treat).

The event is free to all who attend - and no experience is necessary. Come on out and learn about pulaskis, cross-cut saws, backcountry gourmet cooking, and what it means to "give something back." Click here for more details.

And thanks in advance to Maidie for spreading the word!
